For many are in a battle right now. A battle with strong enemies. Enemies you may have not encountered before. Enemies that are in ungodly leagues that have partnered to come against you and take you out. If that is you, I want to introduce you to the Rule of War. The Rule of War is a manual for how the Sons of God are to fight, and win, against the Forces of Darkness. I’m not sharing this with you to replace scripture, but rather, to increase in knowledge and understanding of how battles were fought, and won, in Old Testament times.
What Is The War Scroll
Before continuing, I want to give a brief history of The War Scroll. The War Scroll is a scroll that was discovered along with thousands of scrolls that were hidden in the caves of Qumran between the years of 1947 -1956. The collection of these scrolls are most commonly referred to as, The Dead Sea Scrolls. The history of these scrolls are fascinating. They were written by devout priests, dating back to 230 BCE, even before the birth of Jesus. These priests, grieved by the corruption within the Temple, left the Temple and retreated to the desert of Qumran, so as to be able to serve God in holiness and in righteousness. I will do an indepth Blog post on this at a future time.
While the Dead Sea Scrolls, and the War Scroll, are not scripture, they serve as reliable historical evidence of what life was like, and what Judaism was, during the 2nd Temple Era. This also gives us the mind of Jesus, which is necessary to help us understand and interpret scripture. Jesus was a Jewish Rabbi living in the 2nd Temple Era when He walked this earth as a man. His halaka (interpretation and application of scripture) is what we believers endeavor to attain to in our walk with God.
Within the War Scroll, there is a section for the Rule of The Trumpets. There are several trumpets that Believers are to utilize during different phases and stages of the battle. One such trumpet, which I am deploying in the midst of my current battle against a league of strong enemies, is the Campaign Trumpet. What is a Campaign? A military campaign is defined as “several related operations aimed at achieving a particular goal (usually within geographical and temporal constraints)”. God is saying that, we must be strategic in our battle and we must realize that we are NOT fighting alone. God is saying when we lift up our voice as a TRUMPET, we can direct the host of God’s warring angels, to fight on our behalf, take back the territory, secure the strategic advantage, and win!
Understanding The Campaign Trumpet
Written upon the Campaign Trumpet, they shall write, “the Mighty Deeds of God to scatter the enemy and to put all those who hate justice to flight and a withdrawal of mercy from all who hate God”. Let’s analyze this because we need to know how to fight to win the battles we are in! This is the secret for how we are to use the Campaign Trumpet.
First, we must see “they shall write”. The responsibility for sounding this alarm AND the sound that this alarm makes, is upon us. Isaiah 58:1, tells us that our voice is likened to a trumpet. We are responsible for what we say, especially during this battle that we are in. Set a guard over our mouth, at the risk of coming into agreement, and prospering the plans of the enemy
Next, we see the sound that is coming forth from this trumpet. Praising God for His Mighty Deeds. As my Pastor, Dr. Michelle Corral always instructs us, the Word of God is personal, powerful, prophetic and relevant to YOU. This is YOUR battle. You have to do as the Psalmist instructs in Psalm 77:11-12. “I will remember the works of the LORD: surely I will remember Thy wonders of old. I will meditate also of all Thy works, and talk of all Thy doings”. This is NOT the time to be rehashing how the enemy has ambushed you, attacked you, robbed you, stolen from you. This IS the time to start praising God for ALL the mighty deeds that He has done for YOU. By doing this, not only are you stirring up your most holy faith, but you are putting the enemy into remembrance that his eternal destiny is to be defeated by the power of God! And that power worketh in YOU mightily! “To this end I strenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me” (Colossians 1:29 NIV).
Lastly, this is a cry for JUSTICE; a justice that can only come from the Kingdom of God. “Justice and Judgment are the habitation of Thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before Thy face” Psalm 89:14. We are crying for the Judge to drive out all injustice. All those who hate justice can not stand before God and as a result, they will not be in position to obtain mercy from God. We must be lovers of Justice and Judgement and be sure that we are executing justice and judgement in our affairs. “He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of three, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God”? - Micah 6:8. As we commit our ways to God, as we trust in Him, He shall bring forth our judgment as the noonday, Psalm 37:6.
Where 2 or 3 are gathered together, Jesus is there in our midst. Let’s continue to glorify Jesus, and edify and teach one to another, in our comments💜
